The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees by a score of 8-3 in Thursday night’s series opener. But tonight, it was New York’s turn. The Yankees defeated the Rays 6-2 behind a great performance from Zoilo Almonte and the offense.

Roberto Hernandez and David Phelps both struggled at times, but ultimately Phelps came out on top. These two have now matched up twice this year, with Phelps getting the better of Rodriguez in both games.

These teams are now separated by 2.5 games in the AL East, with the Rays hoping to close that gap Saturday and Sunday behind better efforts from the offense and pitching.

Meanwhile, the Yankees offense really picked up the slack tonight, scoring six runs on 11 hits and doing so with production throughout the lineup. The star of the night was rookie Zoilo Almonte, who went 3-4 in his first major league start, highlighted by a big home run.

These two teams will be back at it Saturday at 1:05 ET. Thanks to all those who tuned in!
