The New York Yankees advanced to the American League Championship Series after defeating the Baltimore Orioles, 3-1.
CC Sabathia helped pitch his team to the ALCS, out-dueling Orioles’ starter, Jason Hammel. The Yankees’ ace pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits, with nine strikeouts.
The Yankees offense in this series had been nothing short of dreadful, but the Bombers’ bats woke up enough to get the job done.
A little small ball started the scoring for the Yanks. After Mark Teixeira singled to start the fifth inning, the Yanks’ first baseman unexpectedly stole second base, which helped Tex score on a single off the bat of Raul Ibanez.
After an Ichiro Suzuki RBI double in the sixth inning, Curtis Granderson finally put his mark on this series with a solo homer in the seventh.
That would be all the Yanks needed to capture Game 5 of the ALDS, sending them to the ALCS against the Detroit Tigers.
