Having covered the team since 1989, Joel Sherman is currently the longest tenured Yankees beat writer. This gives him a pretty good advantage when it comes to leaked rumors from the Bronx.
- The Yankees had “no idea” that the Astros were willing to include $11 million in cash along with their ace starter Roy Oswalt .
- A Yankees official said, “We’re out on Dunn.” Obviously referring to the Nationals outfielder Adam Dunn .
- The Yankees have been in touch with the Rockies about bench help, Clint Barmes , Melvin Mora , and Ryan Spilborghs could all potentially help the Yankees. But nothing happened as the Rockies aren’t looking to move salary and don’t expect enough in return to make a deal worth it.
Once again a team looking to deal holds the Yankees to a higher standard than other teams when it comes to trading. You have to think that if the Yankees had known they could have acquired Oswalt for about $9 million for the remainder of 2010 and all of 2011 they would have jumped at it.
