Yankees Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz on Bronx Bombers’ Trade Targets

The 2011 MLB trade deadline, or Judgment Day, as I prefer to call it, is officially less than two weeks away. July 31 is the last day to make a deal, which is generally when most teams decide to pull the trigger with the pressure of the world weighing down on the shoulders of general managers across the majors.
As always, the New York Yankees are expected to be major players at the deadline. Rightfully so.
They could use another solid veteran in their lineup with superstar slugger Alex Rodriguez on the shelf for almost two months. New York also must find a reliever to bolster the bullpen in front of future Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera.
More important than anything else on the agenda, Brian Cashman must acquire an anchor for the pathetic pitching rotation.
Seriously, does anybody besides the most delusional of Bronx Bomber fans believe this pitching staff could actually get the job done in the second half of the season, let alone in the playoffs?
Aside from CC Sabathia, this staff makes me want to vomit. Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon? You have got to be kidding me!
Sure, they immensely exceeded their expectations in the first half, but these two cannot be trusted down the stretch. They already made me regurgitate my dinner following their pitiful performances out of the All-Star break against the lowly Toronto Blue Jays—keep in mind, Jose Bautista didn’t even have the opportunity to face Garcia and he still surrendered five earned runs in five innings.
Colon couldn’t even make it past the first inning without being tagged for three earned runs as the Jays put up an eight-spot.
These two will continue to implode down the stretch, which is why the Yankees have been linked to nearly every starting pitcher possible on the trade market.
All eyes, of course, are on Colorado Rockies ace Ubaldo Jimenez. Since rumors broke late last week there was a chance—a slight chance—that Ubaldo could be moved, the Yankees were immediately linked.
After all, how could the Bronx Bombers not be all over a 27-year-old who was a Cy Young candidate in 2010 with a 19-8 record, 2.88 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 214 K’s?
As it stands right now, the Rockies most likely would want the entire farm system in return for their ace, or at least New York’s top three or four prospects. One has to wonder if Cashman would even dream of pulling the trigger.
One thing that’s for sure: Cashman, New York and Yankees fans across the world can only dream of a World Series championship if he fails to make a blockbuster move at the deadline to greatly improve this team.
The Yankees are always centered around trade discussions heading into the electrifying deadline, so be sure to keep checking back for the latest trade rumors surrounding the beloved Bronx Bombers.
