Alex Rodriguez continues to press for homer no. 600 and remains stuck on 599, but the Yankees still managed to win thanks to an exciting 9th inning home run that put the Yankees ahead for good 5-4.
Here are some notes:
- Lance Berkman made his Yankee debut, DH’d, and batted in the two-spot.
- Robinson Cano has had a great season and A-Rod thinks he will be the MVP.
- Speaking of A-Rod, he’s getting a day off today.
- Andy Pettitte threw off a mound today and probably needs one more bullpen session, at least one minor league rehab appearance, and then he could be ready to return to action.
- No Yankees have visited George Steinbrenner’s grave site which is in Tampa about 43 miles from where the Rays play.
- Joel Sherman thinks that the Yankees used this deadline to make up for the bad decisions of the winter: Nick Johnson, Chan Ho Park, and Randy Winn.
The Yankees game starts at 1:40 this afternoon. This is in a way a big game, if they win they are three games ahead in 1st place, if they lose they are just one game ahead.
