World Series Will Be Fine Without the New York Yankees

FOX can’t be happy about what took place this weekend. The Rangers advanced to the World Series by eliminating the New York Yankees, and the Giants advanced to the World Series by eliminating the Phillies.
The network needed the Yankees to get good ratings on primetime, because ratings mean more advertisement revenue.
The reaction to FOX’s disappointment should be BOOHOO! That’s right. Who cares what FOX thinks? If baseball fans love baseball, they will watch the World Series regardless.
The Yankees have arguably have the biggest following in the country, so they always will get good ratings.
With that said, anyone that loves competitive and compelling baseball will watch the Giants and Rangers. The Giants and the Rangers are fun to watch. They develop their homegrown players and most of their players are likable.
The Yankees can’t say the same.
This viewer is going to watch and write about the World Series. If the Yankees played in the Fall Classic, odds are that game would not be on his TV screen.
The truth is there is nothing appealing about the Yankees: They are boring to watch. A bunch of mercenaries winning and competing for a championship does not sound appealing.
Giants and Rangers will be a good series. This will either go 6 or 7. It’s a toss up on who wins.
Isn’t that what the Fall Classic should be all about?
Whenever the Yankees play, it’s a mismatch. That’s what happens when a team buys as many players as they can in the free agency and then makes trades whenever they want.
Fortunately, the Rangers and the Giants proved a championship can be built without spending money. It’s called scouting for the right players and both teams do it well.
The Rangers have the pitching to win a championship, which is why they are in this position, rather than watching the World Series at home.
They also compliment pitchers with good hitters well. Texas’ young hitters developed quite nicely. It’s not just Josh Hamilton and Vladimir Guerrero that are leading the way, players like Ian Kinsler, Elvis Andrus, Michael Young, Nelson Cruz and Mitch Moreland swung the bats effectively in this post-season.
Rangers’ depth of hitting along with good pitching is why they should be the favorite to win the World Series.
Still, don’t discount what the Giants can do.
Everyone thought the Giants would lose to the Braves in the Division Series, but they advanced in the League Championship Series.
Everyone thought the Giants would go out meekly against the Phillies, but here they are playing for a championship.
The Giants are a mixture of young players and cast-offs. Those guys led the team all season, and now they are four wins away from becoming World Champions.
If no one likes that, well then they are not genuine baseball fans. Just because a fan’s favorite team is not playing doesn’t mean he or she should stop watching baseball altogether.
From reading through Yankees message boards, it’s been amusing to see their fans become miserable about this match-up. This shows Yankees fans aren’t really baseball fans in the first place. Based on watching them at Yankee Stadium this year, they are probably not. They lacked passion in the two games this baseball fan attended over there.
It’s hard to take Yankees fans seriously when they rarely pay attention to the game. If anything, the World Series would not lose much energy without their support.
Yankees fans have no business complaining about the World Series without their team. Their team has been in the playoffs every year, and they have been a staple in the World Series for a long time now.
Baseball does not revolve around the Yankees, or the Phillies, or the Red Sox, or any one team for that matter. At some point, other fans in the country are tired of watching them every year.
From all accounts, baseball fans from other parts of the country will watch this year’s Fall Classic. They like new blood. The curiosity factor will get people to watch.
And this is why FOX might do okay ratings-wise. If both teams play well, viewers will continue to keep watching as long as the games are extended. Here’s hoping this series goes to seven games.
There can never be enough games featuring the Giants and the Rangers. Both teams are having fun playing in this stage. From watching the celebrations by both teams, they are enjoying the moment. They were fortunate to be in this situation. They did not take it for granted.
That’s awesome to watch. Too many times, the Yankees, Red Sox and the Phillies act like they have been there before. They think it should be expected and take the opportunity for granted.
The Giants and the Rangers play the game the way it should be. They grind it out and they are tough to go up against. How could anyone not enjoy what the Giants and the Rangers accomplished? If folks in New York are not watching, they are missing out on a good thing.
Just what other options are out there to watch anyway? Hockey? C’mon. Basketball? Stop. Does anyone want to watch the Knicks and the Nets lose and play no defense?
Watch at least the first two games before one complains about this Series.
Let’s hope this turns out to be a good one, so that there won’t be talk about how the World Series needed the Yankees.
