There’s yet another wrinkle in the Alex Rodriguez PED scandal, reports Teri Thompson, Michael O’Keeffe and Christian Red of the New York Daily News.
According to the report, Rodriguez is concerned that the New York Yankees or even Major League Baseball, could be behind Rodriguez’s second (reported) failed drug test.
A source close to Rodriguez said (via Thompson, O’Keeffe and Red), “He’s scared, because he thinks this is so unbelievably false, and he’s wondering who could be behind this. He thinks something could be going on larger than anyone might think.”
First of all, that statement is simply ridiculous.
To imply that a professional sports franchise, let alone the league itself, tampered with the tests or put forth false documents is probably one of the most unbelievable allegations a player could make.
Second of all, how much lower can Rodriguez stoop at this point?
It’s one thing to deny the allegations directed towards you. Gio Gonzalez immediately went to Twitter to deny the reports, but that was the extent of his denial.
Now granted, there’s no telling if the players are guilty or not until Major League Baseball investigates all the information that has been presented to them.
But the reports can’t be discounted, especially when three of the five major players named—Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera and Bartolo Colon—have all been linked to PED‘s in the past.
The end of Rodriguez’s career—if this ends up being the end—has been both sad and sorry.
He’s a shell of his former self as a player and is now linked to yet another PED distribution scandal.
As caring people, we should all wish the best for Rodriguez and the other players tied to this most recent scandal.
That being said, what kind of person can blame the team that gave him a $275 million contract?
