Update : With two outs in the eighth inning, Sabathia lost his no-hit bid on a base hit to left field by Tampa catcher Kelly Shoppach.
I know some people might blast me for posting this, but I’m not overly superstitious and I know that nothing I do here in New York is going to change anything going on in Tampa.
But if you are not already doing so, you’d better tune your TV or radio into the Yankees game because CC Sabathia has already thrown seven innings and has yet to allow a hit to the Tampa Bay Rays. If you have the bad luck to be working on a Saturday and can’t tune in, stay put and I’ll keep you updated .
The problem may be that Sabathia has already passed the 100-pitch mark and it’s only April 10 so Joe Girardi may look to pull him, but my guess is he’ll pitch until he gives up a run.
Sabathia has gotten a great deal of help from his defense. Mark Teixeira saved him in the sixth inning on a line drive that nearly was a hit and Alex Rodriguez made an equally impressive play in the seventh when he dove to his left, got up, and threw the runner out to preserve the no-hit bid.
