Pinstripes By The All-Star Game? Cliff Lee to Yankees Rumors Surface

In what could be a very bizarre situation, rumors have surfaced that Cliff Lee, who is scheduled to pitch against the New York Yankees later tonight, could be dealt by the Seattle Mariners to New York before weekend’s end.

It may even be entirely possible that he flies out of the Pacific-Northwest and shows up in Anaheim for the All-Star Game in pinstripes.

Reports have New York sending top prospect Jesus Montero and Class AA second baseman David Adams to Seattle for the coveted southpaw.

The move seems to make sense for the Mariners. Seattle has made it clear that any deal involving Lee would have to include a top catching prospect in return.

Montero fills that need.

Yet, while a move for Lee would be a no-brainer for any team that could put together the right package for him, it gives the Yankees six above-average starters for a five-man rotation.

Many are already speculating that Javier Vazquez, whose second tour of duty in New York has been shaky to say the least, will be dealt for either much needed bullpen help or another offensive force before the July 31st trade deadline.

However, the deal is still in its stages of infancy, and New York’s questions about their rotation can be answered if and when everything is finalized.

Stay posted.
