Home sweet home—the Yankees have completed their sweep of the hapless Orioles and went 6-1 over this recent home stand, getting them right back on track in the AL East.

Now just two games back of division-leading Tampa, who had the day off, the Yankees are starting to get hot. The strength of schedule has been a great help to the Yanks’ recent success.

The offense and dominant pitching from early in the year has returned. Andy Pettitte, Phil Hughes, and A.J. Burnett all seem to be dialed in right now, and the offense has given plenty of run support.

With Curtis Granderson and Jorge Posada back, the Yanks are at full strength on that side of the ball (unless you see Nick Johnson as a positive in the everyday lineup).

Almost the entire lineup has been hot recently, except for Mark Teixeira and Francisco Cervelli. Nick Swisher has elevated his game to another level this year, batting .318 with nine home runs and 31 RBI. He also appears to be adapting well to the two spot in the order.

Robinson Cano’s numbers right now are otherworldly. He is now batting .373 with 12 home runs and 43 RBI, not to mention his current 17-game hitting streak. He is making his name known and is a possible MVP candidate.

Other players such as Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez are starting to regain their form, and Brett Gardner has snapped out of his slump, putting his average back up to .304. Granderson is another outfielder that is performing well for the Yanks, as he is now batting .269, considering he was hitting about .220 when he came back.

But the Yankees should have a strong test with their next opponent, which is the Toronto Blue Jays. They have surprisingly hung around this year in the AL East. They have some good young pitching going for them right now and might be for real this season.

Either way, the Yankees have concluded their home stand and now are 19-7 at the Stadium this season. They head north of the border with a 34-20 record. That three-game series kicks off tomorrow night.
