For fans outside of the New York area, this weekend’s series might not seem like a big deal.
But if you live in the local area, the Yankees–Mets series is a very big deal.
The series will not have any major impact on either team’s season, but for the fans and teams alike, it’s a battle for bragging rights.
Over the past few years, the Mets haven’t been as good a team as the Yankees, but that may no longer be the case.
Heading into the series, the Mets (32-26) are a game and a half out in the National League East and have a very good chance to contend for a playoff spot.
Meanwhile in the Bronx, the Yankees are 31-25 and only a half game out of first place behind the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East.
So, while this head-to-head matchup is always primarily a battle for bragging rights, both teams are looking to move up in their divisions, which makes this series that much more important.
