The New York Yankees were forced to make two big DL moves on Monday as injuries struck their Triple-A roster.

The Yanks placed their 21-year-old stud pitching prospect Manny Banuelos on the disabled list for the second time this season. The first trip was due to a back issue and this trip is due to a sore left elbow.

Banuelos has the potential to be an All-Star at the next level after he matures in the minors. This season he has pitched to a 4.50 ERA and has struck out 22 batters in 24 innings.

Mike Vander Woude reported the news about Banuelos, along with the news of another familiar name that will join him.

Recently demoted infielder Eduardo Nunez was also placed on the DL with a sore right thumb. Nunez was sent to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 11, a day after committing two errors at third base for the major league club.

In four games at the Triple-A level, Nunez has three singles and three strikeouts. He hit .294 in New York but his defense plagued him all season.

Both Banuelos and Nunez are on the 7-day DL although there is no timetable on either of their returns.

It is likely that the Yankees will me more than cautious with Banuelos, especially considering that this is his second stint on the DL this season.
