It appears after one year of retirement, New York Yankees legend Andy Pettitte is making his comeback. The 39-year-old has signed a minor league deal, according to Jack Curry of YES Network.
The deal will be worth $2.5 million. However, as it’s a minor league deal, Pettitte has no guarantee to make the big league roster.
Pettitte has been helping out as an instructor for the Yanks this spring. According to another Curry tweet, he has been mulling a return for a few weeks now.
This move is puzzling for both sides.
For the Bombers, they already have an overabundance of starting pitchers. With Pettitte, the Yanks now have five starters trying out for three spots as manager Joe Girardi has already guaranteed CC Sabathia and Hiroki Kuroda slots.
For Pettitte, with a chance of not making the team at all, he runs the risk of being embarrassed in his last days as a Yankee.
Stay tuned to see how this turns out!
