New York Yankees MLB Draft Results: Scouting Profiles for Every 2012 Pick

UPDATE (6:13 PM ET): The New York Yankees have selected Matthew Snyder, 1B, Ole Miss, with the 10th Round, 337th pick of the MLB First-Year Player Draft.
It’s been 20 years since the New York Yankees drafted a skinny, unassuming shortstop out of Kalamazoo (Mich) Central High School.
That shortstop, Derek Jeter, would become the face of the Yankees’ franchise and lead them to five World Championships.
When the 2012 First-Year Player Draft opens up at 7 p.m., ET Monday, the Yankees will undoubtedly be looking towards Jeter as an ideal archetype for the 11 players they will pick over the three-day event.
The Yankees will be picking towards the end of the first round with the 30th overall selection. They also have two picks in the second round—89th and 94th overall.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman told Bryan Hoch of MLB.com that being able to restock a team’s talent pool is “vital” to an organization’s long-term success.
“Because we’ve had as much success as we’ve had on a regular basis, we’re always picking at the back end,” Cashman told MLB.com. “It’s difficult. There’s a lot of waiting, and it puts us at the back of the boat in every round, but the philosophy is the same no matter what, which is to take the best player on the board.”
The Yankees have adopted a similar draft philosophy to their NFL counterparts the New York Giants. It seems that every year Giants GM Jerry Reese is able to pick up a worthwhile contributor by selecting the best player available (BPA). It seems that Cashman and company will be following that same philosophy Monday evening,
