New York Yankees Lineup: What to Think After Yanks’ Recent Hot Streak

New York Yankees bats are officially on fire after smacking around Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitching back-to-back nights in the Bronx. New York has combined for 25 runs and 31 hits over the last 18 innings of play.
So, what does it all mean?
It means that the Yankees are healthy. New York bats are finally producing the way everybody expected them to and seem to have finally turned the corner. If not for Mariano Rivera’s three consecutive blown saves, the Yankees would have won six of their last seven games, averaging 6.28 runs per game.
According to ESPN New York’s Ian Begley, the Yankees’ hot streak is a reason to be optimistic:
But there may be one reason to be optimistic, and it’s this: if you’ve paid attention over the last few days, it seems like the Yankee offense is finally coming alive.
New York’s hot bats can be attributed to a lineup that is finally healthy. The Yankees lineup now features a healthy Curtis Granderson, a healthy Alex Rodriguez, and a streaking Alfonso Soriano and Robinson Cano.
Soriano has 13 RBI in his last two games (6-for-9, 4 HR) to pace the Yankees offense. According to ESPN Stats and Information, via a report by the Associated Press, Soriano is just the seventh player in MLB history to record at least 13 RBI over a span of two games and the first to do so since Sammy Sosa in 2002.
The 37-year-old homered twice and drove in six runs in a 14-7 win against the Angels on Tuesday. Soriano followed that up with another two-homer game on Wednesday night, but this time drove in seven runs in an 11-3 win, also against the Angels.
Cano has been hot, too, as he has gone 7-for-8 in his last three games. While Cano has only one run batted in over that span, he has scored three times and has set the table for other Yankees hitters.
While some critics may say that the Yankees did their damage against a team with one of the worst records in baseball, New York managed to beat up two of the Angels’ best pitchers in Jason Vargas and Jered Weaver.
New York will head to Fenway for an important three-game series against the Red Sox this weekend following Thursday night’s game against Los Angeles. If the Yanks want to keep their postseason hopes alive, they need their bats to stay hot in Boston.
I do not think that this recent hot streak is a fluke, but it will not be an everyday occurrence either. Look for New York to stay hot and score some runs this weekend to stay competitive against Boston.
