It wasn’t exactly the ‘bang’ that the Bronx Bombers were hoping to go out with, losing four straight to the Detroit Tigers.

In fact, it sounded more like a ‘crunch’. But whether that was the sound of Jeter’s ankle or of an organization crumbling under expectations is for the fans to decide. Going out with a bad taste in their mouth, it will be a long offseason for the Yanks and the rumors will come thick and fast as it progresses.

Here is what’s buzzing already:

Ichiro Contract Talks, Where’s Gardner Going?

There are suggestions that Ichiro is keen to sign a new contract after enjoying his first season in pinstripes. New York Post writer Joel Sherman suggested that he will land a one-year deal in the range of $5-8 million. Following his .322 batting average since joining the Yankees, that would be easy spending for the club.

Rumors also suggest that with Ichiro on board for another year, the Yankees intend to build around left-handed hitting power. And sources indicate that Brett Gardner could be moved into a reserve role as a fourth outfielder due to the difficulty of accommodating both players.

CC Sabathia Undergoes Surgery

The big pitcher underwent surgery to remove a small bone spur in his throwing elbow, but all signs are positive and the club is already looking forward to a return before the start of next season. The 32-year-old was 15-6 in 28 starts this past season.

Derek Jeter Ready for Preseason

After a 2011-12 season that rolled back the years for the Yankees’ veteran shortstop, a scary moment in the postseason left him needing surgery on a fractured left ankle. After undergoing successful surgery just a week ago, the club is already optimistic that a four to five month recovery period means he should be fit and ready to go for spring ball.

Yankees on Short-list of Ball Clubs for 18 Year Old Otani

The 18-year-old Japanese pitcher Otani is already making big headlines and despite being contracted in Japan until 2013, the young right-hander made claims that he will be pitching in America next season.

Of course, the Yankees have joined a list that includes Boston, the Rangers, and the Dodgers in the chase for his signature. But club experts say that the Yankees truly will be on a budget and will be careful in deciding how much to spend on an unproven albeit hard-throwing young talent.

With all of the rumors that are sure to develop it should be an interesting offseason. Check back to B/R for all of the latest Yankees updates!
