New York Yankees: Jorge Vazquez Should Take over DH Duties from Jorge Posada

There is no doubt the New York Yankees should have a guy named Jorge as their everyday designated hitter right now. The only problem is this organization continues to use Jorge Posada when they should be turning to Jorge Vazquez.

Super prospect Jesus Montero gets all the attention, at least from the casual fans, to replace the at-the-end Posada. But many scouts believe the young Montero is still a ways away. More importantly, he is not having nearly as a strong a season, especially from a power/production standpoint, as is Vazquez.

While Jorge Posada, who should have been cut following his temper tantrum/quitting at being dropped to ninth in the batting order, battles for the leagues worst batting average, Jorge Vazquez (29) is destroying Triple-A pitching at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

You likely know by now that Alex Rodriguez snapped out of a slump with a pair of homers, helping the Yankees break a six-game losing streak on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Vazquez hit two homers of his own against Lehigh Valley.

Vazquez also had a two-homer game on Saturday against the top Red Sox minor league affiliate in Pawtuckett. For the season, the 5′ 11″, 225-lb. slugger leads the international league with 16 home runs and 41 RBI in only 37 games played.

Think about that for a second. Then think about New York’s offense for the last couple of weeks. Then think about how hopeless Posada looks in most of his at-bats.

Vaquez is batting .303, has a .638 slugging percentage and a .971 OPS. Why is he not the everyday DH for the Yankees by now? Just exactly how many weeks do we have to live with Jorge Posada living on the interstate (batting average in the 100’s) before this 29-year-old gets a chance to prove he can do better?
