New York Yankees: Is Francisco Cervelli Telling the Truth on Latest PEDs Story?

For the last week, we have discussed Alex Rodriguez with his connection to PEDs.

Two more names have come up in relation to Dr. Anthony Bosch, who was the Miami doctor tied to the Yankees slugger.

One is former Yankees prospect and current Seattle Mariners hitter Jesus Montero (via the NY Daily News).

The other is current Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli, and the news of Cervelli broke on a story from Yahoo! Sports Tim Brown and Jeff Passan, which originally centered on Milwaukee Brewers superstar Ryan Braun.

Cervelli, who has been forthcoming in his ties with Bosch on his Twitter account, made a statement regarding the story posted on Yahoo! about his involvement.

The tweet from Cervelli continued….

The 26-year-old Cervelli is penciled in to be the Yankees starting catcher along with Chris Stewart with the departure of Russell Martin this spring.

With the recent names that have come up in this PED scandal—and given the fact that A-Rod is a former steroid user being accused of using while with the Yankees, plus Braun, who was accused of PEDs in the past as well—what does the Yankee fan make of Cervelli?

Is he telling the truth that he thinks what he purchased was legal and approved by Major League Baseball?

My gut feeling says that Cervelli is being truthful and thought whatever he was purchasing was legal—at least in his mind.

Cervelli’s numbers were never through the roof and his body type and style have never really changed, nor warranted any suspicion for anyone to believe that he was on any type of PEDs.

In fact, when the report first came out that Cervelli’s name was tied to Bosch, I did a double take, because I really didn’t believe it.

But then again, the names that have come up over the last 10 years would have made you scratch your head.

I’m sure once the Yankees report for spring training next week in Tampa, Fla., Cervelli will have plenty of chances to talk about his involvement regarding Bosch and this PED scandal.

If Cervelli can learn anything about his current and former teammates who have been caught up in these types of situations, it’s to be honest and not lie to the media.

Because if Bosch is ever found and decides to tell all, Cervelli’s name could come up in the wrong light.

Stay tuned, Yankees Universe.
