New York Yankees Injuries: Brian Cashman Should Not Make a Desperation Trade

The New York Yankees have suffered injuries to their top-two relievers—Mariano Rivera and David Robertson—and are now left with Rafael Soriano as the closer and an undetermined bridge to get to him.
Rivera is lost for the season, but Marc Carig of the Star-Ledger reports that Robertson could be back in late May or early June.
While the team will be getting back Robertson in the near future, they are still a little under-manned in the bullpen.
Brian Cashman knows there are plenty of trade options available should he wish to pursue them, but he’d be smart not to make a move.
Other teams know that the Yankees are in need of bullpen help. That will just drive the price up to the point where the Yankees would be giving up a ridiculously unfair amount for a guy that tosses just one inning per game.
Guys like Joel Hanrahan, Grant Balfour and Brandon League are likely all available but trading anything more than one or two mid-level prospects for them is absurd.
The Yankees have a talented crop of top-tier players in the minors, and it would not be wise to start trading them away now just because of a couple injuries.
I think Cashman will be a little more weary of trading away young players now because of the Jesus Montero-for-Michael Pineda debacle, but he may be tempted to make a move to try and save the depth of the bullpen.
During the weeks leading up to the trade deadline, expect several teams to call Cashman to see if he’s interested in working out a deal.
Don’t be surprised if he makes a deal for some bullpen help, but make sure that you analyze the package being given up before you determine whether or not you like the deal.
