As it’s been since the Yankees announced that Phil Hughes won the fifth starter job the news has been a little slow and probably will be until the season starts. So let’s take a look at what’s in the Sunday papers:
Bill Madden of the NY Daily News proves that he’s forgotten more about baseball than you’ll…never mind, he just seems like he’s forgotten a lot about baseball. He makes the case for 32-year-old career minor leaguer Jon Weber .
Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long expects big things out of outfielder Brett Gardner this season. He’s not just your average speedster .
Former Yankee Ian Kennedy has won a spot in the Diamondbacks rotation. I wonder, if the Yankees hadn’t traded him where he’d fit into this team.
The Yankees won’t necessarily use Joba Chamberlain for just one-inning stints.
But the eighth inning set-up man role is Joba’s job to lose .
Derek Jeter thinks that Joba is a good fit for the Yankees’ bullpen.
That’s probably good because it seems like the Joba debate might be over, for good. Pitching coach Dave Eiland said , “He’s in the bullpen, and he’s there to stay, period.”
That’s today’s Sunday papers. We’ll be back with more in a bit including the best from the Yankees blogosphere over the past week.
