New York Yankees: Bombers Pick Up Curtis Granderson’s $13M 2013 Option

The New York Yankees wasted no time preparing for 2013.
Just 24 hours after the Bombers were eliminated by the Tigers in the 2012 ALCS, they’ve already made their first move for 2013.
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Yankees will exercise their $13 million team option for the 2013 season on center fielder Curtis Granderson:

Granderson hit .232 with 43 home runs and 106 RBI in the regular season for the Yankees, leading the team for the second straight season in home runs.
His playoff numbers were less than desirable, as he hit .158 (3-for-19) with one home run against the Orioles in the ALDS and .000 (0-for-11) against the Tigers in the ALCS.
People have speculated as to whether the Yankees would give Granderson a contract extension before the 2013 season, and some have also wondered if the Yankees will look to trade the 31-year-old center fielder.
I think they will stick with Granderson for the 2013 season, see how he progresses with his average along with his power numbers and then make a decision whether to extend him or not.
If he can improve his average back to the .260 to .270 mark and cut down on his strikeouts, he would be an even more dangerous bat in the lineup.
In 2012, Granderson struck out a career-high 195 times, which explains why his average was .232 and his on-base percentage was .319.
Personally, I like Granderson and don’t want to see him traded. With all of the trade ideas surrounding Granderson lately, I feel like I’m one of the few who wants to keep him.
For now, it looks like the Yankees will hang on to their starting center fielder for one more season.
