Andy Pettitte seems to have at least some interest in hanging around Major League Baseball next season. He told Brian Heyman of the Journal News that because of his injury problems this season, he is more likely to want to try again next year.

I can probably say that when I came back, I thought there was no chance that I was coming back (next season), that this was a one-year deal. But getting hurt and only having (about) 60 innings right now when you were hoping to have a couple hundred innings under your belt, it definitely gives me the option to consider coming back again next year, that’s for sure.

This news comes on the heels of an interview done by Barry Bloom of MLB.com with the New York Yankees team president, Randy Levine. In that interview, he also expressed at least some interest in keeping Pettitte in pinstripes.

Let him get healthy. Let him pitch. And then we’ll sit down and talk to him in the offseason. But Andy Pettitte is a great Yankee. As you saw earlier this year, when he said he wanted to come back, now he’s back.

With these two statements coming out at almost the same time, the future seems at least somewhat bright for Pettitte. While Levine’s answer was rather ambiguous, it does seem like a strong finish to 2012 would go a long way toward securing employment for next season.

I have to admit that I am pulling for the guy. After such a long and successful career, it would be hard to see his career end under less than ideal circumstances.
