From Jim Mandelaro:
Cito Culver has passed on his athletic scholarship to the University of Maryland and is ready to talk contract with the New York Yankees.
Tomorrow night, the Irondequoit High shortstop will fly to Tampa, site of the Yankees’ minor-league complex, for a three-day visit. Culver said he’s not sure what is on the agenda other than a physical.
He graduates from high school on Sunday and is not allowed to sign a contract with the Yankees until then.
“They asked me to come down to Tampa,’’ he said today. “I’m excited.’’
