MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees Putting Granderson, Hughes, Nova All on Trading Block?

The winter offseason for the New York Yankees has gotten off to a much different start than usual.
With the exception of re-signing Hiroki Kuroda, Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera, the Yankees have been relatively quiet.
In fact, during this week’s annual baseball winter meetings, the Yankees were not involved in one single free-agent move while in Nashville.
They have made an official one-year offer to Kevin Youkilis, but other than that, things have been very quiet from the Bombers.
However, according to Andrew Marchand of ESPN, Cashman is listening to offers on three of his current players.

Curtis Granderson‘s name has come up in trade discussions all winter, and with him only signed through 2013, it’s no surprise that he is being talked about in potential trades.
Right now, given that Granderson and Brett Gardner are the only two Yankees starters left in the outfield, I don’t think they’ll trade Granderson.
The other two mentioned, Phil Hughes and Ivan Nova, are intriguing by being brought up in trade rumors.
Hughes really turned himself around in 2012 and showed the Yankees that he could be relied on for a full season, winning 16 games for the Yankees and making 32 starts.
I’d actually hold on to Hughes as the Yankees’ No. 4 starter if I were Cashman, unless I get an offer I simply cannot refuse.
Now Nova I’d be more willing to trade.
However, his value is a little down after he struggled in the second half of the 2012 season; he was forced from the rotation and did not see a single inning in October.
But, he’ll also be 26 years old by the time next season starts; do the Yankees really want to give up on a young arm this soon in his career?
I think right now, Cashman is just seeing if he’ll get any nibbles on any of those three and judging what kind of trade proposals and deals come floating back his way.
Right now, this week has been filled with mostly free-agent signings—trades have kind of taken a back seat for the moment.
But once the bigger names like Josh Hamilton and Zack Greinke come off the market, teams will start to look for trades to improve their teams.
And once the main center fielders and pitchers are gone, that’s when Cashman‘s phone could be ringing more frequently.
I don’t think any trades involving these players will happen before Christmas, but once we get toward January, that can certainly change.
