As we’re now nearly 20 games into the minor league baseball season, there are a slew of notable players who are on fire at various levels. Earlier today, I identified some of the hottest pitchers throughout the minor leagues.

But for every pitching prospect off to a blistering start, there’s one who has struggled mightily to begin the 2012 season. So, here’s a look at some of the more disappointing pitching performances at Double-A, High-A and Low-A to open the 2012 season.

Triple-A

Dellin Betances, RHP, New York Yankees

4 GS, 0-2, 17.1 IP, 8.83 ERA, 2.19 WHIP, 16 K/17 BB

His control issues are at an all-time worst.

Chris Archer, RHP, Tampa Bay Rays

4 GS, 1-3, 18 IP, 8.00 ERA, 1.83 WHIP, 27 H, 15 K/16 BB

See Betances. Bullpen role may be in his near future.

Matt Harvey, RHP, New York Mets

4 GS, 1-1, 19 IP, 6.63 ERA, 1.84 WHIP, 24 H,19 K/11 BB

Things could be turning around for the Mets’ No. 2 prospect after striking out 10 over six innings in his first win of the season.

Stephen Fife, RHP, Los Angeles Dodgers

4 GS, 1-2, 16.1 IP, 9.92 ERA, 2.69 WHIP, 31 H, 11 K/13 BB

Not handling promotion to Triple-A well; has allowed at least five earned runs in each of his last three starts; only positive is his 2.45 FB/GB rate.

Double-A

Deck McGuire, RHP, Toronto Blue Jays

3 GS, 1-2, 16.2 IP, 1.44 WHIP, 14 K/5 BB

Has allowed an Eastern League-leading five home runs.

Allen Webster, RHP, Los Angeles Dodgers

4 GS, 1-3, 20.1 IP, 4.43 ERA, 1.97 WHIP, 16 K/9 BB

Struggling to get left-handed hitters out, as they’re batting .424 against him.

Chris Dwyer, LHP, Kansas City Royals

4 GS, 0-3, 15.2 IP, 6.32 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, 15 K/11 BB

Iffy command has led to a 10.00 ERA with runners on base; 1.35 ERA with bases empty.

Class-A Advanced

Ian Krol, LHP, Oakland Athletics

3 GS, 0-2, 14.1 IP, 6.91 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 13 K/6 BB

See Dryer; 21.60 ERA with runners in scoring position.

Drake Britton, LHP, Boston Red Sox

3 G, 0-2, 12.1 IP, 13.86 ERA, 1.78 WHIP, 19 ER, 5 HR, 6 K/4 BB

Ugly start to the season; has struck out one more batter (six) than home runs allowed (five).

Tyler Waldron, RHP, Pittsburgh Pirates

2 GS, 1-1, 13.2 IP, 7.24 ERA, 2.05 WHIP, 22 H, 11 K/6 BB

Was pitching well until his latest start: 2 IP, 7 H, 7 ER, 2 HR, 2 K, BB

Class-A

Parker Bridwell, RHP, Baltimore Orioles

3 GS, 1-0, 14 IP, 5.79 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 8 K/ 5 BB

Shelled in latest outing: 4 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, K, 3 BB

Matt Summers, LHP, Minnesota Twins

3 GS, 0-2, 14.2 IP, 7.36 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, 8 K/9 BB

Has left with runners on in the fourth inning in three consecutive starts.
