MLB Free Agency 2013: New York Yankees ‘Have No Interest’ in Delmon Young

The New York Yankees are still looking for a right-handed bat for 2013.
However, one name can be crossed off the list of potential candidates.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees have no interest in free agent outfielder Delmon Young.

The 27-year-old hit .267 with 18 home runs and 74 RBI with the Detroit Tigers in 2012.
His attitude may be a big reason why teams aren’t jumping at the chance to land the 2012 ALCS MVP.
Back in April, Young was arrested and charged with harassment for making anti-Semitic remarks to a Jewish tourist and tackling him to the ground.
When Young was in the minor leagues, he was suspended for 50 games after he threw a bat at an umpire.
Against the Yankees in the 2012 ALCS, Young hit .353 with two home runs and six RBI in the four-game sweep that got Detroit to the World Series.
In the Fall Classic against the San Francisco Giants, Young hit .357 with one home run and one RBI, one of the few Detroit players who hit well against the eventual World Series champions.
Young could be a really solid player who would cost a team no more than $6-7 million per season. But teams know that Young’s attitude is a major cause for concern.
Can you imagine Young, with his anger issues, trying to deal with the New York media if he were struggling? I could see him inciting a fight, maybe even several fights, with reporters if they asked him the wrong questions.
The Yankees will still look into other options for a right-handed bat, like Scott Hairston or Vernon Wells.
But the Yankees are making the right decision in passing on Young . That would have had disaster written all over it.
