Ellsbury Out vs. Mets With Hip Injury

MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch reported that Ellsbury will miss Sunday’s game against the Mets with a hip injury. Manager Joe Girardi “said that they’re hopeful he can play tomorrow.”
There are many things that have defined Ellsbury’s career since he debuted in 2007, with injuries near the top of the list. In seven full seasons, he’s played 140 games only four times and is at an age where his body figures to be slowing down.
In fact, Ellsbury was already hampered by injuries in 2015 before real games started. He appeared in nine spring games in mid-March before straining his oblique. Sometimes fluke things tend to happen, which is part of the job.
The Yankees are in a transitional phase during which they want to contend with an aging, expensive roster and integrate some new young talents. Ellsbury is the kind of player who can keep an offense afloat because of his ability to get on base and create havoc on the bases, just as long as he’s on the field to do it.
