David Robertson: It’s Too Early to Cast Judgment on New York Yankees Pitcher

It’s just one blown save. Calm down.
The New York Yankees had a one-run lead against the Tampa Bay Rays going into the ninth inning. On the mound was the team’s closer. He was unable to close out the final inning, though, and the Yankees would go on to lose to the Rays.
No, I’m not just referring Wednesday night’s matchup between the two American League East teams, in which David Robertson was on the mound. It’s also the exact same scenario that happened to Mariano Rivera on Opening Day this season.
Yes, even Mariano Rivera has blown a save against the Rays this year.
The Yankees are 15-2 this season when taking a lead into the final inning of the game. Both of those loses have come against the division-leading Rays.
No big deal.
David Robertson will be alright, and he will likely prove to be a suitable substitute for Rivera while he recovers from his knee injury. He has a .263 ERA this season with a 1.24 WHIP, and he’s held opposing batters to a .220 average. The home run he gave up to Matt Joyce is the only home run he has given up so far this season.
Let’s hold our judgment on whether or not Robertson will be able to handle the pressures of taking the mound with a lead in the final inning until we have a sample size larger than one game.
