There have been many teams interested in free agent pitcher Cliff Lee, but he remains as the top priority for one ball club—the New York Yankees.
The Yankees originally had a six-year deal on the table, but they have upped their offer to seven years that would pay Lee about $23-24 million annually.
After two seven-year deals were signed by Jayson Werth and Carl Crawford, the Yankees had no choice but to increase their offer to the dominant Lee.
Lee is the type of pitcher that can help you win a World Series, and that is exactly what the Yankees are trying to do.
After the Red Sox traded for Adrian Gonzalez and signed Carl Crawford, the Yankees are going to need as much pitching as they can get so Cliff Lee is a must-sign.
The only other realistic team in the hunt for Lee is the Texas Rangers.
Unfortunately for the Rangers, the Yankee can easily outbid them for the lefty Lee.
The acquisition of Lee would give the Yankees two ace pitchers in the rotation, the other being CC Sabathia, and three left handed pitchers, including Andy Petitte.
It has been reported by Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal that Lee will make a decision and sign with a team by Sunday, so it is going to be an interesting few days.
