CC Sabathia is a man of many appetites. He loves his sports and his food just as much as any red-blooded American. However, when it comes to Hooters, Sabathia would rather have a great set of Canz.
I am of course referring to the burgeoning set of franchises known as Canz-a-Citi. The restaurant chain is opening a new chain in the Midtown neighborhood of Murray Hill in Manhattan. There are already restaurants in Queens and Long Island.
Sabathia is siding with the little engine that could over the established chain Hooters. Fox Sports reports Sabathia has signed on to be the part owner of the Murray Hill joint.
The chain has lofty ambitions as it hopes to battle the national behemoth Hooters—that would be the chain known for its chicken wings and beautiful waitresses that ruin the sporting event on the TV by talking to you.
As a personal aside, I never understood why someone would want to go into a sports bar to talk to a woman that was in no way interested in him and is merely doing her job. All I would want is a pitcher of beer and a boatload of wings to chomp on.
If I wanted hours of talking I would stay home with my wife, but I digress.
Steven Ferraro, a co-founder of the chain, told Fox Sports the impetus behind Sabathia getting into the sultry food business. “CC and I have been friends for years,” he said. “This is a business venture for him. His two passions are food and sports, so this is a good fit.”
When asked about Sabathia signing onto be a co-owener when he may opt out of his Yankees contract, Ferraro stated, “All I can tell you is that CC loves New York and he loves being a Yankee. We’ll see what happens.”
The best part of the report comes when Canz is accused of pilfering hot waitresses from Hooters. Ferraro didn’t mince words when he said, “We have better working conditions, and that’s why they come here.”
Unfortunately, we can’t glean any extra info that would have us believe Sabathia would opt out of his contract. It looks like we will have to wait and see on that info.
At least we know that Sabathia loves his sports, food and big-chested waitresses.
