The Yankees send their ace to the mound, looking for a strong start to get them back on track yet they got the opposite of what they expected.
After surrendering six runs on ten hits, over five innings, CC Sabathia was pulled. So much for the duel of the decade between Santana, and Sabathia.
Now six games out of first, and with the Blue Jays and Tigers clawing at their back, the Yanks will now have to face the always tough Twins in Minnesota.
Even though the Yankees swept the season series against the Twins last year, Minnesota has a renewed confidence against the Yanks. Considering they got their first win in New York in over a year after a grand slam off of Mo.
The Yanks need this series victory now more than ever, and to beat the Twins or anyone else, the offense has to break out, and score some runs.
The pitching has regressed, but no one could have thought they would continue at the rate of success they were having. Thus putting even more emphasis, and depending on the offense to heat things up.
There is help on the way, but Curtis Granderson can’t solve all the offensive woes the Yanks have right now. Espescially since Curtis wasn’t hitting very well before the injury.
The off day on Monday will help, but the Yanks will still have to overcome injuries to Posada and Johnson, and need to start putting some runs up on the board or else they might just find themselves out of the playoffs.
I know it’s still early, but how the Yankees perform over the next month and a half may very well decide their ultimate fate.
