Boston Red Sox Have a Lot to Prove Against Tampa Bay and New York

It’s just what the doctor ordered: A full throttle walloping of the last place Baltimore Orioles in the American League East.

The Boston Red Sox got off to a good start amidst its nine-game road trip with a sweep over the O’s, but now it’s onto the real test in the East—Tampa Bay and New York.

Boston visit Tropicana Field for a brief two-game series against the Rays, who are six games back and sitting in third place, and then return to the Bronx for a stinging four-game series with the first place Yankees.

New York helped out the Sox by dropping three of four to the Chicago White Sox as they gained ground in the division standings. The Yankees are 1-12 against Sox teams this season.

Tampa Bay has a 6-4 record against Boston this season and has won two out of the three series, including taking three games out of four from April 30-May 3 at the Trop.

New York has yet to win a game against the Red Sox this season (0-8), which speculates that streak will end soon.

In order for the road trip to be dubbed a success, the Red Sox must either:

A) Split with Tampa Bay and New York

B) Sweep Tampa Bay, split with New York

C) Sweep Tampa Bay, win or sweep New York 

D) Split with Tampa and win or sweep New York

They can’t get swept by the Rays because that’ll put the Sox at 8-4 against them. If the Sox sweep the series will be tied 8-8.

Boston need to remain confident and powerful over the Yankees and show them they are willing to recapture first place in the standings.

August is the home stretch month before rosters are extended to 40 in September. With the addition of Victor Martinez and Casey Kotchman, Boston’s heart of the order is stronger than ever before and needs to prove itself worthy on the playing field, rather than just on a piece of paper.
