Andy Pettitte To Miss Start With Shoulder Fatigue

According to Peter Abraham of the Journal News, Yankees starter Andy Pettitte will have his next start skipped due to shoulder fatigue and his next start will be Monday after nine days of rest.
Both manager Joe Girardi and Pettitte himself brushed this off as no big deal. Pettitte will not throw in between starts at all so it will be a true nine days off and the team is hopeful that will, “knock it out.”
Pettitte also said that the sore shoulder kept him from having a strong outing his last time out. Last Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles, he lasted just five innings while allowing five hits and three walks that lead to three earned runs. He managed to throw 103 pitches, but only 59 of those were strikes, slightly high for Pettitte.
This is obviously bad news for the Yankees. It’s late in the season and the worry is that this could carry over into the playoffs. After all, this is what held Pettitte back last season.
The good thing is the Yankees have such a comfortable lead that they can skip him at least one start and it will have almost no effect. If they have to they could rest him until the end of the season. The playoffs are what’s important here.
He actually threw a bullpen yesterday and said it felt fine. That might be athlete speak though.
