Andy Pettitte Experiences Setback in Rehab

Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte had a setback in a simulated game Friday and will join the team Saturday in Kansas City for further evaluations.
Joe Girardi said Pettitte could only push off at 75 percent in a 50-pitch simulated game at Tampa. He said Pettitte would not make a minor league rehab start Monday or Tuesday next week.
Pettitte has not pitched since July 18 because of a strained left groin. Pettitte was 11-2 with a 2.88 ERA in 18 starts before going on the disabled list.
Pettitte and the Yankees have been optimistic that he could come back ahead of schedule, but I’ve always been skeptical. Pitching requires a lot of leg strength and because of that this type of injury tends to linger with pitchers.
It sounds like Pettitte didn’t go nuts trying to push himself though and he’s smart enough to shut it down completely if he was in danger of making it worse. I expect that this won’t be a huge issue, but it will probably tack on another week to his rehab.
