It was announced yesterday in various news sources, particularly the New York Times, that New York Yankees third-baseman Alex Rodriguez will be questioned by Major League Baseball officials concerning his participation in high stakes poker games.
A-Rod allegedly participated in illegal poker games on two occasions.
The details are all over the web and in newspapers. I will not repeat them here.
What I want to do is raise a few questions for readers to ponder.
- Does it matter if A-Rod played in a few high-stakes poker games? If it did not effect his play in baseball, does it matter?
- If it was on his own time, why should anyone care?
- Is there an MLB rule concerning players playing poker for money?
- Were the poker games actually “illegal” if they were among friends?
- If he did violate either MLB rules or the law, what should the penalty be?
Much will be coming out in the next few days and weeks on this issue.
Please let me know what you think and, remember, keep it clean and on topic.
