Alex Rodriguez Denies League Plea Deal in Place Regarding Biogenesis Scandal

Alex Rodriguez is preparing for his return to the New York Yankees lineup. At the same time, the Biogenesis incident and potential suspensions are looming like a dark cloud over the heads of several players, including the Yankees third baseman.
Details about the performance-enhancing drugs scandal have been extremely limited, and Rodriguez didn’t want to shed any further light on the situation. Michael Martinez of CNN reports that there have been no plea negotiations involving a possible suspension.
New York Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez denies any plea negotiations with Major League Baseball for alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs, he told CNN’s Jason Carroll this week.
“Well, I don’t think there’s anything that’s going on right now, and that’s as far as I’m going to take it,” Rodriguez said. “I think it’s important that we have a process. I think we have a good system with Major League Baseball. And let’s let the process play out.”
The report states around 20 players could face discipline as a result of their connection with the Biogenesis clinic and founder Anthony Bosch. It remains unclear when Major League Baseball might hand down the suspensions, however.
In the meantime, Rodriguez is currently in the minor leagues as he attempts to fully recover from hip surgery in January. The Yankees offense struggled to find any semblance of consistency prior to the All-Star break, hitting just .243 as a team.
Jed Weisberger of MLB.com reports the longtime slugger said in a radio interview that he’s expecting to return early next week.
Alex Rodriguez, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left hip in January, expects to return to the Yankees on Monday in Texas, he said in a radio interview with WFAN’s Mike Francesa on Wednesday.
As for Rodriguez‘s involvement in the scandal, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported last week that the Yankee had met with MLB officials to discuss Biogenesis, but it’s unknown how much he cooperated with the investigation.
Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez met Friday with Major League Baseball officials in their Biogenesis investigation, and although he had no intention of answering specific questions about the drug clinic, his level of cooperation was unknown.
All told, there are a lot of moving parts surrounding Rodriguez right now.
He’s trying to get his swing back on track in order to help the Yankees, but the potential impact of his involvement with Biogenesis continues to be one of baseball’s biggest stories.
Rodriguez, who will be 38 on July 27, is 5-for-28 with one home run and six strikeouts through 10 minor league games.
