A-Rod Name No Longer Appropriate for Popular Brooklyn Grocery Store

The hits just keep on coming for Alex Rodriguez.
I’m not talking about the Ryan Dempster-type hits, I’m referring to the off-the-field hits he continually receives.
Now, according to El Diario La Prensa (h/t Fox News Latino), a New York City shop owner is ready to change the name from A-Rod Bodega.
“We are thinking of changing the name, because the outcry from neighbors is intolerable,” the owner, Ricardo Rodriguez (no relation to the player), is quoted as saying in Spanish to El Diario. “The bodega’s name has been ‘A-Rod’ for 12 years now. Back then, our [A-Rod] awning was the pride of Dominican fans. No one imagined the downfall of ‘The Ace.’”
Once named Pena Grocery, the bodega has been in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn for more than 40 years.
“We don’t know what to name the bodega now,” Rodriguez said, according to the newspaper. “But the fact is some customers are boiling mad, even though they still come to buy food here because of our history in Clinton Hill.”
It’s understandable how the business wants to separate itself from Rodriguez. After all, who wants to be associated with a cheater?
It seems like there’s something new coming out about A-Rod each day.
Whether it’s the posturing by his legal team or players speaking up about his cheating, it’s never going to get better for Rodriguez.
His public image is shot and his Hall-of-Fame candidacy is “iffy” at best.
Even if he’s suspended, A-Rod will still likely see the rest of the money he’s owed (outside of money lost from suspension). The New York Yankees may not be able to get around that one.
So, at least Rodriguez does have that going for him.
Outside of that, there’s not much positive left for Rodriguez in the realm of baseball or from a public-relations standpoint.
He may hit 12 more home runs to pass Willie Mays for fourth on the all-time home run list. But every baseball fan will put an asterisk beside his name for admitted use between 2001-03. For the record, during that time period, A-Rod hit 156 home runs.
This Brooklyn business is right in separating itself from Rodriguez.
With a love for Dominican baseball, according to the article, A-Rod is someone they can no longer be proud of.
