Andy Pettitte Surpassing CC Sabathia as New York Yankees Ace

It was unthinkable at the start of the 2012 season, but CC Sabathia might not be the New York Yankees best pitcher anymore thanks to Andy Pettitte and the dominance he’s displayed since coming out of retirement.
On Tuesday night, Pettitte went 7.1 innings without allowing a run and only surrendered two hits while striking out 10.
The Yankees haven’t seen the type of dominance that Pettitte is displaying from the pitcher who’s paid to be their ace. However, it seems for the Bombers, Sabathia has become the “poor man’s” ace in regards to pitchers of a fellow title around the league.
Guys like Clayton Kershaw, Justin Verlander and Jered Weaver amongst others are simply on another level than that of Sabathia’s robust 3.68 ERA and WHIP comparable to Bruce Chen.
That’s not a knock on Chen, but when you pay a pitcher a dump truck-full of money every season, you expect him to be much better than your average MLB starter.
Of course, if Pettitte continues pitching well and stays healthy, manager Joe Girardi would never announce Pettitte as his true ace. It simply won’t happen considering Pettitte could be gone after this season and Sabathia could be locked-up in pinstripes until 2017.
But Yankee fans who continue to watch Pettitte pitch the way he has takes them back to a long time ago when things were simpler and great pitching didn’t cost an arm and a leg.
Deep down in the conscious of the Yankee Universe, die-hards know that if it came down to a big game, they would easily choose Andy Pettitte to take the mound even at the ripe old age of soon-to-be 40.
Some things just never change.
