Mariano Rivera‘s blood clot has finally subsided, so it’s time for him to go under the knife.

New York Yankees beat writer Bryan Hoch tweets:

This is obviously a good sign for Rivera. He can now take the first step in a long journey back from a torn right ACL.

Although the injury occurred over a month ago, the blood clot delayed his surgery until it passed last week.

Rivera has made it known that he intends on making a comeback from this injury, but it certainly won’t be easy at the age of 42 (43 when he returns).

Given the fact that his surgery has been delayed, his recovery may run well into the 2013 season. Regardless, Yankee fans will be happy to know that Rivera is beginning his long trek back early next week.
