Both Joba Chamberlain and Brett Gardner have been injured for the better part of this season, but the New York Yankees received encouraging news on both of their stars on Thursday.

While there’s still no timetable on his return, the Yankees can be happy knowing that their hard-throwing reliever is on his way to recovering from a terrible ankle injury.
Chamberlain had previously thrown off of a half-height mound to help regain some of his form. He is currently rehabbing at the Yankees’ minor league complex in Tampa, Florida.
Gardner’s news was just as encouraging. According to the LoHud Yankees Blog Twitter feed, he will play in a rehab game with Single-A Charleston on Friday.
Gardner took BP today. He did not play in a rehab game after experiencing soreness yesterday. He will play a rehab game in Charleston tomm.

Gardner has been sidelined since April 17, and, after numerous setbacks, it appears as if he will be on track to come back to the Yankees some time next week.
Gardner was hitting .321/.424/.393 with two doubles and two stolen bases before injuring himself.
