New York Yankees: Watch Jesus Montero Make the Bombers Pay for Trading Him

Jesus Montero says, “I got ya trade right hea!” to the New York Yankees in his first game back in the Bronx with the solo homer seen here.
Of course, Montero was the Yanks’ prized prospect whom they traded to the Seattle Mariners for Michael Pineda and a throw-in of Jose Campos.
Pineda had season-ending surgery, and Campos has just recently gone to the DL after starting off strong and quickly fading into mediocrity is Low-A ball.
So while both of the Mariners’ trade pieces were sitting at home and rehabbing, Montero was blasting an opposite-field homer in Yankee Stadium.
In pure Tim Tebow fashion, Montero was “excited” to be back where his young career began, according to Brendan Prunty of The Star-Ledger.
“I’m just really excited to be here,” Montero said. “Really happy to be back in the city and just going to have some fun tonight. Looking forward to a win and doing good and doing the best for my team.”
In the same piece, Prunty describes how Montero was the showcase of batting practice before the Yanks’ win over the Mariners. There’s no doubt Bombers fans still have a vested interest in a former top prospect of their favorite team.
Part of that stems from all the hype that surrounded Montero as he made his way up the Yankees’ farm system.
The majority of that interest comes from the fact that the Bombers traded him for two pitchers who are currently on the DL. Most importantly, Pineda was supposed to be the pitching form of Montero and help New York this year, but instead, his season ended far too early.
It has bust written all over it, and this is the first of many times it will be rubbed in the faces of Yankee fans who didn’t want this trade. While I agree it’s still far too early to properly grade this trade, it’s crystal-clear the Yanks are losing badly so far.
