New York Yankees: Despite Shaky Triple-A Outing, Andy Pettitte Is Ready

Andy Pettitte hopes to rejoin the New York Yankees in the upcoming week. However, his Triple-A start on Sunday was shaky, at best.
Pettitte labored through five innings, throwing 95 pitches. He allowed eight hits, five runs (three earned), struck out five and walked two.
Although he started shakily, Pettitte retired the last six batters he faced.
The numbers were not impressive, but the fact that he threw back-to-back 90-plus-pitch outings is very encouraging. The Yankees are home this week to face the Tampa Bay Rays and the Seattle Mariners.
Yankees fans would love to see Pettitte’s debut at Yankee Stadium, and it seems as though he would like to be up in the majors sooner rather than later.
Pettitte has not been particularly sharp in his last two outings, and one has to believe that he might be growing impatient by still being in the minors. After his last start, Pettitte said this:
I feel I’m strong enough and ready to make my next start with [the Yankees]…I feel good and it was another solid day. I felt the quality of pitches were as good as I’ve had in any of my starts up to now, and I was able to hold my velocity throughout [the outing]. I feel like I’m ready to help the team.
If Pettitte feels strong, then his numbers do not mean much. The Yankees should not be discouraged by his production in these starts; rather, they should look at his pitch count and his health after the game.
The Yankees’ starting staff could use some help, and Pettitte appears to be ready to help out the rotation.
