The New York Yankees have a good number of solid prospects in development in their farm system, and outfielder Ravel Santana is one to watch.

The Yankees signed Santana in 2009 for $145,000, and they got a great deal on an up-and-coming kid with tremendous talent.

He is a strong and solid outfielder in the Gulf Coast League who shows potential to become one of the best in the league, and could move through the minor league levels quickly once he gains some more seasoning.

Santana impressed the Yankees organization with his incredible speed, going 10-for-13 in stolen base attempts in 40 games during the 2011 season. His awesome speed will grow as he progresses in the minor leagues.

He hit a nasty bump in his development last season during a stolen base attempt, fracturing his ankle in two places and tearing ligaments. Assuming that he has recovered well and suffers no setbacks, he will get back on track in the minors.

In the 2011 season, he had 48 hits, 11 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 29 RBI with a .296 batting average in 41 games.

Santana has a reputation for being an advanced hitter with good plate discipline and above-average power for his age.

With his speed, he can be quite an asset throughout the outfield, especially in center field to chase down fly balls and get to base hits more quickly than the average outfielder.

He has good arm strength, which is invaluable to throw runners out, or to prevent extra bases from speedy runners.

Santana is a Yankee prospect to watch closely.
