Believe it or not, the most storied franchise in Major League Baseball just welcomed their first member to the 3,000 hits club.
The 12-time All-Star became just the second player in history to reach the big 3,000 via a home run.
The Yankees‘ captain was already one of the most accomplished players in the MLB, but this just adds to his resume, solidifying his spot in the Hall of Fame.
The 5-time World Series champion and 2000 World Series MVP received a standing ovation from a sell-out Yankee Stadium crowd and was greeted by the entire team as he crossed home plate.
The home run came on a 3-2 pitch from pitcher David Price and there was not an empty seat in the house after it left the bat.
A role model to many, Jeter has recorded all 3,000 of his hits in the same Yankee pin-stripe uniform.
The great No. 2 has a career .312 batting average and that home run just gave him his 236th since he was called up in May of 1995.
Jeter, who has announced that he will sit out next week’s All-Star Game, probably will not mind too much after the historical week he has had.
The list of his accomplishments goes on for miles and the man deserves nothing but respect.
Congratulations to you, Derek Jeter, for joining one of the most prestigious clubs in baseball.
