New York Yankees’ Terrible Offseason

All us Yankee fans know how disappointing of an offseason our team had.  The only successful signing you could say was Rafeal Soriano. He may be the one reason why the Yankees may be able to keep pace with Boston in the AL East.

Outside of that move, here are some of the worst moves Brian Cashman has made this offseason:

1.  Not signing Carl Crawford

After losing out on Cliff Lee, the Yankees should have turned to Carl Crawford right away.

The Yankees could of used Crawford if they want to win multiple championships over the next few years.

Of course, they let the rival Boston Red Sox get him.  The signing of Carl Crawford makes the Red Sox better than the Yankees. I don’t think there’s a question about it.  Not to mention, they also traded for and signed one of the best first baseman in the National League in Adrian Gonzalez.

2.  Signing Russel Martin

What did we need him for?

We have the best catching prospect in America in Jesus Montero.

We have Francisco Cervelli who is a very decent catcher and provides a lot of energy in the club house and on the field.

We still have Posada, who could probably catch 2-3 times a week, but the Yankees have said he will be their primary designated hitter. So, Russel Martin?  Come on Cashman.

3.  Not trading for Zack Greinke

How many REAL starters do the Yankees have?  Three.  CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Phil Hughes.

Had the Yankees signed Carl Crawford after losing out on Cliff Lee, they could have traded Brett Gardner and a few other prospects to Kansas City for the young talented Greinke.

I know there were rumors spreading about how Greinke didn’t want to pitch in New York, but there was never any hard substantiation to support those claims.

In fact, after Greinke was traded to the Brewers, he even said that he would have accepted a trade to New York. Again, another bad move by Cashman.

4.  Brian Cashman not trying to trade for Chris Carpenter

Last year, rumors spread that Chris Carpenter might be traded this upcoming season. He is a free agent after this year and the Cardinals wouldn’t want to sign him to another big contract.

Again, if the Yankees want to keep up with Boston, they NEED another good starting pitcher.  Boston’s staff includes Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, John Lackey and Clay Bucholtz.

Four great talented pitchers.  Once again, what do the Yankees have?  Well, we know about CC Sabathia, who’s been great for us.  Phil Hughes, who has also been great for us.  But we have A.J. Burnett, who is the most inconsistant pitcher I’ve ever seen.

When he’s at his best, he’s a CY Young Award type pitcher, but when he’s not at his best, he’s awful.  The Yankees need Burnett to have one of his best seasons to keep up with Boston this year.

The Yankees haven’t made many moves this offseason, which is unusual for the Bronx Bombers.

I’m a diehard Yankee fan and very frustrated about how this offseason has gone.

Do you agree?
