Captain’s Casting Call? Derek Jeter’s Possible New Teams If He Flees the Bronx

After the World Series comes to a close all eyes will turn on Mr. November who will join a line of superstars who have been in the news about quite possible leaving or their teams (LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade) or rejoining them (Brett Favre).
Last year, after the Yankees won the World Series talk of Jeter leaving the Yankees would be absurd and rubbish. Jeter leaving the Yankees? I don’t think so but the Yankees are sticking to a team policy which prohibits they offer extensions during a contract and they couldn’t make an exception to Jeter last offseason.
At this point, Mariano Rivera has a better chance to come back than Derek Jeter, a chance that Jeter would have owned with a great margin last season when Jeter hit .334 with 30 stolen bases and 18 home runs. The question becomes what the Yankees would think of Jeter. The Jeter who had at least at .291 batting average from 1996 to 2009 or the Jeter whose batting average is below .270?
In the defensive department, Jeter’s errors have been low (currently at 5) after eight last season. Jeter as a full time designated hitter is not going to happen with Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada splitting the bulk of the DH duties in the coming years.
If there were any chance that Derek Jeter even thinks about leaving the Yankees I’d put it at 2% (his jersey number). There have been rumors Jeter would command A-Rod money and preach to the Yankees that he is the Jeter of 2009 and not 2010. If Derek Jeter wants to remain a Yankees for life he’ll have to take a paycut something thats unlikely considering his “frienemy” Alex Rodriguez is getting paid $30 million while he might have to get paid between $10-$15 million, he would call it unfair.
I don’t think Derek Jeter will leave the Yankees but let’s say we are in an alternate universe and Derek Jeter gets ticked at the Yankee organization for lowballing him with all the money they have and he decides to prove he is worth it then let’s forecast his possible landing spots based on teams needs and their financial stability.
