Yankees Trade Rumors: Coghlan’s Injury Makes Ross Trade Less Likely

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports , the Chris Coghlan injury effects the Yankees in more ways than just answering a few questions about pies (he was injured in a walk-off pie throwing celebration), it takes away one of their trade options at the deadline – OF Cody Ross .

Now this doesn’t necessarily kill a deal between the Yankees and Marlins for Ross, a right handed hitting outfielder who would be the perfect platoon for Curtis Granderson .

It does make things much more complicated.

The asking price for Ross was already said to have been prohibitive, but now with Coghlan out of the lineup, the only other outfielders on the Marlins are Ross, Cameron Maybin and rookies Mike Stanton and Logan Morrison.

Ross is by far the most experienced member of that outfield. There is a smaller chance he will be dealt and even if the Marlins were still up for trading for him they can now justify their high asking price.

It’s a shame because like I said, Ross is practically the right handed version of Granderson in that he can’t hit righties so much, but mashes lefties. They would have been perfect together. It was a longshot anyways and now it looks as if there is no chance at all.
