Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman ran down a list of 15 teams that are looking to buy before the trade deadline. Here’s what he had to say about the New York Yankees:
- The Yankees say their priority is the bench and bullpen, but it seems they can’t resist the star players.
- They have made a “big proposal” for Joakim Soria, the closer of the Royals.
- They like the Nationals OF/1B Adam Dunn, but not the price attached to him.
- With Andy Pettitte out with a groin injury they’ve tried to acquire Dan Haren, but are not interested in Roy Oswalt partially because he’s been a lifetime National Leaguer.
- The Yankees don’t want to deal Joba Chamberlain if they also have to pay the full $33 million Haren is owed. They would do a deal if it was just for prospects.
- RHP Ivan Nova and RHP Zach McAllister are available.
- RHP Hector Noesi and RHP Dellin Betances are off limits.
- They’ve checked in on IF Ty Wigginton of the Orioles, SS/3B Jhonny Peralta of the Indians, and OF Cody Ross of the Marlins, but there were no updates on them.
