Jeff Francoeur To the New York Yankees Would Make a Lot of Sense

The Mets are trying to trade right fielder Jeff Francoeur due to Angel Pagan’s solid play and Carlos Beltran’s return.
The Mets acquired Francoeur just barely a year ago and after a solid second half last season, he has sputtered this year and has lost his starting gig.
Francoeur’s problems have really only come against right-handed pitching, both this year and over the course of his career. He is sporting a .636 OPS this season and has a career .702 OPS vs. right-handed pitching. Against lefties, however, he has a .787 OPs this year and a .823 OPS for his career.
With the Yankees searching for a right-handed bat off the bench and Curtis Granderson being even worse against lefties than Francoeur against righties, the match seems to make sense. It wouldn’t take much to get Francoeur from the Mets, as he’s known to be available on the market and he was acquired for just Ryan Church last season.
This is hardly the move that many Yankees fans are looking for, and if Francoeur is used against anything other than left-handed pitching it would be a mistake.
Francoeur is not a front line starter and is not a great bullpen arm, but he would help the Yankees in an outfield or DH role against lefties.
Jeff is never going to be the talent many believed him to be when he was coming up in Atlanta. The sooner he and the rest of his camp realize that the better. He has good character, sometimes, and would basically be the right-handed version of the Eric Hinske acquisition last season.
