Passing the Torch: Hank and Hal Steinbrenner Now Fully in Charge of Yankees

With the passing of senior owner George Steinbrenner yesterday, the ownership of the Yankees fell into new hands, George’s sons Hank and Hal Steinbrenner.
Thus the Steinbrenner dynasty continues.
During 2007, George had given his two sons more active roles within the organization, something he called “bringing the young elephants into the tent”.
Hank was dubbed “Baby Boss” by the New York media for his flamboyant remarks about the team, which reminded everybody of his father, Big Stein.
Hal on the other hand, had a quiet and reserved personality, but apparently he was a better executive, because MLB accepted him as the principal owner of the Yankees in November of 2008.
It had been speculated that the Steinbrenner family would consider selling the Yankees after George died, but Hal said that there is no chance that the Yankees are going to be sold.
So it looks as if the Yankees will remain in the hands of the Steinbrenner family for the foreseeable future, and possibly long after Hank and Hal’s tenure as owners.
Robert Molloy, the 18 year old grandson of George Steinbrenner, appears to be interested in a role with the Yankees down the road, at a recent charity event he told reporters “I do want to be like my granddad.”
Either way, it looks like the Yankees are in the hands of a new Steinbrenner generation, and if they are half as passionate about winning as their father, then there are going to be a lot more championships to come, just what the The Boss would have wanted.
